3 ZERO WASTE UPDATE - REPORT BY DIRECTOR ECONOMY, ENVIRONMENT AND INFRASTRUCTURE

Decision

 

3.1 AGREED the format for the meeting as detailed at paragraph 3.2 of the report;

 

3.2 NOTED the operational update, the recycling trial information and the re-assurances provided by the Director Economy, Environment and Infrastructure that the upmost attention is being given to Health and Safety matters and the welfare of staff;

 

REQUESTED

3.3 improved public communication on re-cycling and particularly in relation to promoting the benefits of participating in the scheme;

 

3.4 that the re-cycling participation rates within the Wigtown area are clarified;

 

3.5 information on the financial impact of waste vehicles commuting to the Stranraer Zero Waste Park from Mid Galloway/Machars area;

 

3.6 that as part of the current trial, there is an assessment of costs undertaken in relation to rural collections compared with urban collections and that this information is included in the next report to the Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee following the conclusion of the trial; and

 

3.7 to receive clarification on agency workers employed for household waste and re-cycling collections and their employment status.
