4 EXTERNAL SCRUTINY OF SOCIAL WORK SERVICES SEPTEMBER 2016 - FEBRUARY 2017 - REPORT BY HEAD OF SOCIAL WORK/CHIEF SOCIAL WORK OFFICER

Decision

 

4.1 NOTED the outcome of the scrutiny activity which took place during September 2016 and February 2017; and

 

4.2 CONSIDERED the progress being made in respect of the requirements and recommendations from inspection during the period between September 2016 and February 2017.

5 COMMUNITY PAYBACK ORDER ANNUAL REPORT - REPORT BY HEAD OF SOCIAL WORK/CHIEF SOCIAL WORK OFFICER

NOTED

 

5.1 the completion of our requirement to submit an annual report to Scottish Ministers as detailed at the Appendix; and

 

5.2 that the report demonstrated a broad range of activities across the 9 requirements of the Community Payback Orders, in particular the Unpaid Work activities and projects with positive feedback from both service users and recipients of work.
 

6 COMMENTS, COMPLAINTS AND COMPLIMENTS - REPORT BY HEAD OF SOCIAL WORK/CHIEF SOCIAL WORK OFFICER

NOTED

 

6.1 the progress made since the last performance report on 31 March 2016, in particular sections (3.8, 3.9, 3.11-3.13) of the report;


6.2 the new Social Work Model Complaints Handling Procedure which will be adopted from 1 April 2017 as at section (3.20-3.25 of the report;

 

6.3 the work being undertaken to develop a framework for integrated services complaints handling as at section (3.26-3.29) of the report; 

 

6.4 the performance review being undertaken across Children, Young People and Lifelong Learning to improve complaint handling arrangements across the Directorate and ensure mechanisms for learning as per sections (3.30 and 3.31) of the report

 

6.5 the performance of the service in respect of the number of complaints handled in the period 1 April 2016 - 31 December 2016 as at section (3.10-3.14) of the report; and 

 

6.6 the number of compliments received by the service as detailed at section (3.32) of the report.

7 DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY ALCOHOL AND DRUG PARTNERSHIP - REPORT BY HEAD OF SOCIAL WORK/CHIEF SOCIAL WORK OFFICER

NOTED the update on the Dumfries and Galloway Alcohol and Drug Partnership.

9 ANY OTHER BUSINESS DEEMED URGENT BY THE CHAIRMAN DUE TO THE NEED FOR A DECISION

9.1 that there was no other business deemed urgent by the Chairman due to the need for a decision; and

 

9.2 as this was the last scheduled Social Work Services Committee before the Local Government elections, the Chairman took the opportunity to convey his thanks to the Chief Social Work Officer and her staff for the sterling work that has been done in taking Social Work Services forward and also thanked Elected Members for their input, contribution and positive messages.

10 LOCAL GOVERNMENT (SCOTLAND) ACT 1973

Decision

 

AGREED to adopt a resolution to exclude the public from the meeting in terms of Section 50A (4) of and paragraph 3 of Part 1 of Schedule 7A to the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973.

11.2 CONSIDERED and AGREED the actions proposed by Social Work Services in response to the recommendations of the Complaints Review Panel.
